Official Tartan and Strategic Partnership

Presbyterians for the Kingdom is pleased to formally announce our official partnership with ScotlandShop, the premier specialist in authentic Scottish tartan weaving, custom clothing, and heritage accessories, all handcrafted in Scotland. This strategic alliance honors the deep Scottish heritage embedded in Presbyterian identity—from the pivotal influence of John Knox and the Scottish Reformation to the core tenets of Reformed theology, covenant community, and unwavering commitment to biblical authority that continue to define our tradition.

As Presbyterians for the Kingdom advances its mission of reformation, revitalization, and reunification within the Presbyterian Church U.S.A., this partnership offers tangible, high-quality means to express and reinforce that shared legacy. Key elements of the partnership include:

Reasoning and Purpose

Traditionally, Presbyterians have participated in the cherished custom of the Kirkin' o' the Tartan (or "Churching of the Tartan"), particularly around Reformation Day observances, where clan or family tartans are worn during worship as symbols of heritage, faith, and community. However, in our contemporary context, fewer individuals maintain direct formal family ties to Scotland or specific clan lineages. The creation and registration of this official PftK tartan addresses that reality by providing a unifying symbol accessible to all members and supporters—regardless of ancestral background—enabling everyone to participate meaningfully in this special tradition. It fosters a broader sense of belonging, strengthens communal identity, and serves as a visible expression of our shared Reformed convictions in an era when such reminders are especially valuable. This initiative extends far beyond a standard commercial relationship; it represents a deliberate step toward preserving and revitalizing cultural-spiritual connections to our Scottish forebears while equipping our community with enduring symbols of covenant faithfulness and Kingdom commitment.

Joshua Anderson, Secretary of the Board for Presbyterians for the Kingdom, commented: "We are very excited to establish this formal partnership with ScotlandShop. The Presbyterians for the Kingdom tartan was a long time in the making. This idea first came about on reformation day in 2023, but serious designing and planning did not happen until late 2025 when the Merchandise committee began drafting different tartan patterns. The register gave us a standardize slate of colors to choose from during the design process. Although there were easier and cheaper print on demand suppliers located overseas in China and the far east; the merchandise committee felt it was better to go for authentic quality products located in Scotland. ScotlandShop is a well known brand to the Scottish Registry of tartans and we were blown away by the amount of products they offered and their willingness to help.”

The strong historical ties between Scottish heritage and Presbyterianism, combined with the prestige of an officially registered tartan, create a natural and inspiring collaboration. Full details on the official tartan are viewable via The Scottish Register of Tartans
